Dear Christie Lake Neighbours and Community Members,
Alisha here-your friendly neighborhood Camp Director with Scouts Canada Camp Opemikon. I do hope this finds each of you well and enjoying this colorful fall season. It’s been a lonely year at Camp Opemikon with COVID-19 shutting down our programming and property usage. But rest assured! My husband, Aaron (camp Warden) and I have been taking great care of the property and we’ll be ready to welcome visitors and youth back to Camp Ope just as soon as we are able to!!
As you may already know, Camp Opemikon is part of Scouts Canada–a non-profit organization with a mission to “Help develop well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world.” These closures have been tough, but now more than ever we are dedicated and passionate about continuing to provide exceptional programming and outdoor education to young people. With the support of our amazing volunteers, staff team and community members, we will bounce back stronger than ever! Together!
Each year Scouts Canada members participate in various fundraising campaigns to help support their individual sections. This year we’re taking it one step further as Scouts Canada properties will also be participating in a fun and contactless fundraising campaign–Scout Coffee!! We have partnered with Equator Coffee Roasters, an organic and fair-trade coffee roaster out of Almonte, to present a line of coffee blends made just for the Scouts Canada community and our supporters! 35% of the purchase price will go directly to Camp Ope and the allocation of those funds will be reviewed and decided upon by our camp committee plus me (Director) and Aaron (Warden). We intend to use the money we raise toward program enhancements and equipment/property improvements. An additional 5% of the purchase price goes to Scouts Canada’s No One Left Behind Program, which subsidizes program and membership fees for youth and families experiencing economic barriers. The remainder of the purchase price goes directly to Equator Coffee, an environmentally conscious and charitable local Ontario business, for the production of the coffee.
We sure could use your support this year and coffee makes a great stocking stuffer! For more information about Scout Coffee or to place an order, please visit scoutcoffee.ca If you do feel inclined to make an order, please be sure to select “Camp Opemikon” under the group name to support our camp directly. If you have any questions, please feel welcome to contact me directly at alisha.behme@scouts.ca.
Thank you for your time, your consideration, and your support!
Kindly,
Alisha Behme
